Synthetic Composite Roofing
Built for BC Conditions

Brava Roof Tile is a synthetic composite roofing product manufactured in North America from recycled rubber and resins. It replicates the visual profiles of natural slate, cedar shake, and Spanish barrel clay tile while eliminating the primary drawbacks of those materials: weight, fragility, cost of maintenance, and susceptibility to moss, algae, fire, and impact damage.

The tiles are mold-colored throughout the full product thickness, not surface-painted. Color does not fade in the same way as coated products, and surface wear does not expose a contrasting base layer. Brava uses UV-stabilized pigments and an additive package engineered to maintain appearance and dimensional stability through BC's temperature range, high UV summers, wet winters, and coastal salt air.

Stonnex is a certified Brava installer serving the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley. Certification is required to activate the 50-year transferable warranty. Stonnex registers the warranty with Brava on your behalf at project completion and delivers the full documentation package.

Three Profiles Available
Old World Slate, Cedar Shake, Spanish Barrel Tile

Old World Slate Place Brava Old World Slate

Old World Slate

Replicates the layered, hand-split texture of natural quarried slate. Available in multiple colorways including greys, charcoals, and earth tones. At approximately 155 lbs per square, Old World Slate installs on most residential roof structures without the structural reinforcement required for genuine slate, which runs 700–900 lbs per square. Suited for steeper-pitch applications common across the North Shore and West Vancouver.

Cedar Shake Place Brava Cedar Shake

/brava-cedar-shake.jpg

Cedar Shake

Replicates the random-width, split-face texture of natural cedar shake with Class A fire resistance and Class 4 impact resistance. Natural cedar achieves neither without chemical treatment. Does not absorb moisture, will not rot, split, or support moss and mold growth over time. A practical replacement for aging natural shake roofs across the Lower Mainland, where cedar shake is common on homes built before 2000.

Spanish Barrel Tile Place Brava Spanish Barrel Tile

/brava-spanish-barrel.jpg

Spanish Barrel Tile

Replicates the curved barrel profile of Mediterranean clay tile at approximately 75% less weight. Clay barrel tile typically requires engineered structural upgrades for residential applications in BC. Brava's composite version installs on standard residential framing. Suited for properties where the Mediterranean aesthetic is desired without the structural cost or long-term maintenance burden of genuine clay tile.

Key Performance Advantages
for BC Homeowners

Class 4 Impact Resistance

All Brava tile profiles carry a Class 4 impact rating under UL 2218, the highest classification in North American roofing. Class 4 requires surviving a 2-inch steel ball dropped from 20 feet with no cracking or puncture. This rating may qualify for insurance premium reductions. Stonnex recommends confirming eligibility with your insurer prior to installation.

Class A Fire Rating

Brava tiles carry a Class A fire rating under UL 790, which is the highest fire resistance classification available for roofing materials. Natural cedar shake without treatment is typically Class C. For BC properties in interface zones or with fire risk exposure, Brava's Class A rating provides meaningful additional protection and may satisfy municipal fire code requirements.

50-Year Transferable Warranty

Brava's 50-year limited warranty is transferable to subsequent property owners. As a certified installer, Stonnex activates this warranty with Brava on your behalf at project completion. The transferability is a positive factor in a future property sale, as it conveys documented product coverage to the next owner.

Approximately 75% Lighter Than Slate

Brava Old World Slate weighs approximately 155 lbs per square (100 sq ft). Natural slate runs 700–900 lbs per square. Most residential structures in BC designed for standard asphalt shingles can accommodate Brava without structural reinforcement, which is not the case for natural slate or clay tile.

Recycled Content

Brava tiles are manufactured from recycled rubber and resins, diverting post-consumer material from landfill. For projects where environmental credentials matter, Brava is one of the few premium roofing products that combines a recycled material base with a long 50-year service life.

Minimal Maintenance Cycle

Brava tiles are non-organic and do not support moss, algae, or mold growth in the way that natural wood and slate products can. The maintenance cycle is reduced to a periodic inspection rather than the annual cleaning, moss treatment, and sealing programs that aging cedar shake and some natural slate installations require.

Brava Roof Tile
Answered.

Is Brava real slate or real wood shake?
No. Brava Roof Tile is a synthetic composite roofing product manufactured from recycled rubber and resins. It replicates the visual profiles of natural slate, cedar shake, and Spanish barrel clay tile without the weight, fragility, or maintenance requirements of those materials. Brava tiles are mold-colored throughout the full product thickness, so surface wear does not expose a contrasting base layer.
How long does Brava roofing last?
Brava Roof Tile carries a 50-year limited transferable warranty. The product is engineered for UV stability, dimensional stability through freeze-thaw cycles, and impact resistance, making it suited to BC's climate. Under normal installation and maintenance conditions, the product is designed to outlast the warranty period.
How does Brava compare to asphalt shingles in cost?
Brava Roof Tile has a higher upfront material cost than standard or architectural asphalt shingles. Evaluated on total cost of ownership, including lifespan (50-year warranty versus 20–25 years for asphalt), maintenance requirements, and the avoided cost of a full roof replacement mid-property lifecycle, composite tiles often represent a comparable or lower lifetime cost. Stonnex provides written fixed-price quotes for direct comparison on your specific project.
What is the Class 4 hail impact rating on Brava tiles?
Brava Roof Tile products carry a Class 4 impact rating under UL 2218, the highest classification for impact resistance in North American roofing. Class 4 requires the product to withstand a 2-inch steel ball dropped from 20 feet with no cracking or puncture. This rating may qualify homeowners for insurance premium reductions depending on their insurer and policy. Stonnex recommends confirming eligibility with your insurer prior to installation.
What warranty does Brava Roof Tile carry?
Brava offers a 50-year limited transferable warranty on their composite tile products. The warranty is transferable to subsequent property owners, which is a positive factor in a property sale. As a certified installer, Stonnex registers the warranty with Brava on your behalf at project completion and provides the full documentation package.
Is Brava roofing heavy? Can my existing roof structure support it?
Brava synthetic composite tiles weigh approximately 75% less than natural slate of the same profile. The Old World Slate product weighs approximately 155 lbs per square (100 sq ft), compared to 700–900 lbs per square for natural slate. Most residential roof structures in BC designed for asphalt shingles can accommodate Brava without structural reinforcement. Stonnex assesses structural suitability during the on-site consultation at no charge.
